The Diabetes Summit is a four-hour intensive training on diabetes designed for clinicians, pharmacists, quality improvement professionals, and health center management. At the Summit, we’ll discuss all things diabetes: from patient-first care to new methods of affordable treatments that combine old-school prescriptions with recent medical improvements. This training will share how stigma and the language we use impacts patient care with documented consequences on health outcomes. It will also connect your center with resources on enabling services for patients with diabetes. We are pursuing continuing education credits and will be in touch as they become available.

Messages Matter: The Language of Diabetes

Evidence and experience show that the way we talk to - and about - people with diabetes matters.

There is a growing language movement among both health care professionals and people living with diabetes with the aim of adopting strengths-based and empowering messages that build people up and lead to improved outcomes.

This keynote address will be an opportunity to hear about the evidence, ongoing research, and examples of what works and how we can change our messages.

Keynote Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss the language movement in diabetes
  • Identify three effective approaches to communicating with people who have diabetes
  • Locate language resources for diabetes professionals
