This 2 day course will cover the following key aspects of overpressure protection:

  • The regulatory requirements that must be met in Alberta.
  • Pipelines and non-pipeline facilities.
  • Discussion of OPPSD and AB525.
  • Relief devices, types and how they work.
  • How to size relief devices and their associated piping.
  • The many ways in which overpressure can occur.
  • Extensive review of API 520, API 521 and API 2000.
  • Protection of atmospheric storage tanks from overpressure and vacuum and API 2000.
  • Examples of overpressure scenarios and the calculations associated with each scenario.
  • Four small tests throughout the course intended to encourage discussion not to pass!

This course is highly interactive with many examples, and questions are highly encouraged. The instructor encourages attendees to bring any problems they may have to the course. Extensive reference materials will be supplied to attendees.
