Building Partnerships That Perform: Designing the Operating Model for University-Industry Collaboration

University-industry partnerships are most effective when organizations share a clear operating model for turning common interests into sustained collaboration. UIDP at KFUPM will bring participants together to examine how universities and industry in Saudi Arabia and throughout the Middle East can design, strengthen, and implement those partnership models.

Hosted by King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), this forum will convene university and industry leaders to compare approaches, share experience, and consider how effective partnership practices can be adapted and scaled.

The program will explore the operating models that support research collaboration, talent and student mobility, commercialization, and stronger innovation ecosystems. Participants will leave with practical perspectives on structuring and managing partnerships, new regional connections, and ideas to inform their organizations’ next steps.

What to Expect

Through plenary sessions, panels, short presentations, facilitated discussions, and site visits, attendees will:

  • Examine how organizations can move from transactional engagement to deeper, more strategic university-industry partnerships.
  • Compare approaches to governance, incentives, research collaboration, commercialization, and talent development.
  • Learn from Saudi and regional university and industry leaders, complemented by selected UIDP and global perspectives.
  • Build connections with university, company, and ecosystem leaders from Saudi Arabia and across the region.
