Draft  exposure amendments to the Victorian Planning Provisions are released  for consultation on Engage Victoria. These amendments integrate planning  and environmental regulation, policy and management of legacy  contamination risk. They were developed by DELWP in consultation with  the Environment Protection Authority, as part of the Government Response to the Independent Inquiry into the EPA, (specifically recommendations 10.4 and 14.2).This session will explore the proposed changes to Victoria’s land use planning framework in light of the EPA reforms.

Sam  Johnson -  Manager, Environment Reform Policy at the Department of  Environment, Land, Water and Planning was instrumental in the  development of reforms following the Independent Inquiry into the  Environment Protection Authority (EPA). His work includes contaminated  land policy incorporated into the Environment Protection Act 2018,  the recently released supporting sub-ordinate instruments, and  overseeing the pilot of the preliminary risk screening assessment. Sam’s  practical experience of managing the environment for a large water  corporation provides him with an appreciation of the needs of  environmental duty holders and broader community, which supports his  statutory policy development.
