ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

This hands-on ultrasound workshop will provide participants with ultrasound skills at the point-of-care that can be used in daily practice. This ultrasound training has the potential not only to enhance the learning experience for practitioners, but also to improve the quality of patient care.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

Perform standard ultrasound examinations of the neck and thyroid gland to accurately assess anatomical structures.
Identify key musculoskeletal structures and evaluate common pathologies using ultrasound imaging of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and knee.
Execute a Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma (FAST) exam to evaluate acute traumatic injuries.
Demonstrate safe and precise ultrasound-guided needle placement for procedural interventions.

TARGET AUDIENCE

The target audience includes primary care physicians, family practice physicians, internal medicine physicians, and other healthcare learners who treat patients within the primary care setting.

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE GAP

The ultrasound workshop will help participants to stay informed about the latest advances in point-of-care imaging. The hands-on experience will provide them with a skill set that would allow quick diagnosis of a variety of medical conditions at bedside or in the clinic through a newly-acquired skill set of scanning technique and ultrasound image interpretation.

EDUCATIONAL NEED

Ultrasound is a rapidly advancing imaging modality that is becoming more commonly used as a tool for point-of-care diagnostics, but training opportunities for portable point-of-care ultrasonography remain limited. Ultrasound education in general usually is aimed at the basics and rarely involves hand-held devices. The offered workshop is aimed at closing this educational need through real-time anatomy visualization using portable pocket-size ultrasound units.

DESIRED OUTCOME

As a result of participating in this educational activity, attendees will enhance their clinical competence and performance by integrating cutting-edge, evidence-informed practices into ultrasound practice in a clinical setting.

Ultimately, this course aims to bridge the gap between current clinical guidelines and daily practice, empowering physicians to deliver higher-quality care with the use of ultrasound technology.

ACCREDITATION STATEMENT

A.T. Still University (ATSU) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians.

ATSU designates this activity for a maximum of 3 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.
