The Antiviral Drug Discovery (AViDD) Centers have been dedicated to developing a pipeline of antiviral drugs to treat viral infections, particularly focusing on oral small-molecule compounds. These centers support research from early discovery to late-stage preclinical development of therapies targeting viruses with pandemic potential, including paramyxoviruses, bunyaviruses, togaviruses, coronavirus, filoviruses (including Ebola and Marburg viruses), picornaviruses (including enteroviruses and other cold-causing viruses), and flaviviruses (including the viruses that cause yellow fever, dengue and Zika), with the goal of having widespread treatments available during future outbreaks. The AViDDs are developing direct acting antivirals therapies in collaboration with industry partners to accelerate moving these medical countermeasure (MCM) candidates into the product development pipeline. The goal of this workshop is to inform Program, USG Partners and the scientific community of the current advances and state of the art approaches for development and testing of new antivirals.
