Join us on November 8-9, 2023, for the New Mexico Water Resources Research Institute 68th Annual New Mexico Water Conference, themed The Colorado River's role in New Mexico's past, present, and future water management.
This year’s conference will be held in a hybrid format in Albuquerque at the Embassy Suites Hilton hotel, and online via Zoom.
While the main stem of the Colorado River flows beyond New Mexico's border, through its tributaries the basin touches the lives and welfare of many in the state. The San Juan River provides for communities across northwest Mexico including three Tribal nations, farming operations both large and small, and municipalities. Once fully completed, the Navajo-Gallup Water Supply Project will convey a reliable municipal and industrial water supply from the San Juan River to eastern section of the Navajo Nation, southwestern portion of the Jicarilla Apache Nation, and the city of Gallup, New Mexico, via nearly 300 miles of pipeline. Through a series of diversion dams, tunnels, and reservoirs that make up the San Juan-Chama project, water from the Colorado River Basin is transferred to the Rio Grande Basin, providing supplemental water resources to a number of Tribes, municipalities--including Santa Fe and Albuquerque--and irrigators. This year's conference program on Wednesday, November 8, will examine the role of the Colorado River across New Mexico, survey the challenges in the face of climate change impacts, and look to the future. Conference presentations during the morning of Thursday, November 9, will widen the aperture and feature updates on water programs, projects, and initiatives around New Mexico.
This year's conference will also feature our in-person poster session, during which 57 posters will be presented. The session provides a perfect opportunity to exchange information, showcase a wide variety of water projects, and update colleagues on water research being conducted around the state. The 90-minute session after presentations on Wednesday, November 8, will allow students, faculty, agency, staff, and private entities to network with colleagues from throughout the state and region, providing opportunities for collaboration.
In-person conference registration includes access to the full day-and-a-half program, a lunch on November 8, as well as breaks and access to the poster session.
