Grounded in Dr. Angela Searcy’s Push Past It! framework, this session helps educators “change the state to educate” by identifying Amy G. (the amygdala) in action. Participants learn practical co-regulation and calming strategies that reduce escalation, strengthen adult responses, and create brain-ready classrooms and learning environments for young children.

Learner Objectives:

1. Identify signs of “Amy G.” (amygdala activation) in young children and recognize how stress responses impact behavior and learning.

2. Apply the Push Past It! lens (Change You, Change the Child, Change the Consequences) to analyze adult responses that escalate or de-escalate challenging behavior.

3. Demonstrate at least three self -regulation,  co-regulation and calming strategies that support state change before instruction.

4. Design a simple classroom plan that prioritizes regulation, connection, and brain-ready learning environments.
