POSTER LISTS (HYPERLINKED)

REQUIREMENTS FOR PRESENTING A POSTER

Poster presentation is contingent upon submitting an abstract by September 14th. Space may be reassigned to someone on the waiting list if an abstract is not submitted by the deadline.

Students are encouraged to attend other sessions/workshops and to interact with colleagues from across the broader user community. We have very limited space, but we may be able to accommodate a few additional posters if space allows.

Abstract Submittal

Upon registration, you can upload your poster and abstract then. If you registered and did not upload your poster, no worries. You can go back to your registration by clicking "Already Registered" on the top right of this page to manage your registration and upload your poster. Please underline the name of the presenter in the list of authors and include your institution in your abstract.

The deadline for abstract submittal is September 14th.

Presenters wishing to compete for ALS and Lightsources.org awards are required to participate in the Poster Blitz/Slam. Participation is optional for posters presented for competition in the SSRL/LCLS Joe Wong poster awards.

Promote your poster during the poster blitz that will occur at the conclusion of the Wednesday, September 23, Plenary Session. POSTER AWARD COMPETITION

The Poster Awards are established to promote multi-disciplinary interactions among the light source user community, to recognize the best poster presentations at the Annual Users' Conference, and specifically to help students in preparing for their science careers.

The poster competition will be judged by a panel comprised of the Users' Meeting Organizing Committee, members of the SSRL LCLS, and ALS Users' Executive Committees, and SSRL/LCLS/ALS and invited scientists to ensure that broad research areas are covered.

  • The Joe Wong poster awards are open to users of both the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL) and the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) based on research results from either facility.
  • Up to 3 awards will be given to the most exciting, novel and compelling science which utilized either SSRL or LCLS or ALS as presented during the poster session.
  • ALS Student Poster Competition: Neville Smith Student Poster Award
    • Neville Smith was the Scientific Director for the ALS from 1994 to 2006. He was known not only for his scientific expertise, particularly in photoemission spectroscopy, but also for his wicked wit. As a great supporter of young scientists, his contribution is acknowledged by the naming of the Student Poster Award in his honor, beginning in 2014.
    • The poster competition will be judged by members of the ALS Users' Executive Committee.
      • Awards will recognize outstanding student poster presentations based on the quality, clarity, and organization of the research presented.
      • Judging criteria will include poster layout and appearance, clarity of the central research question and background, explanation of methods, overall content flow, and strength of conclusions and future work.
      • Presenters should be prepared to give a brief summary of their poster to judges and discuss their work with both specialists and researchers from outside their immediate field.
      • The competition is intended to highlight strong student research conducted using ALS capabilities and to support students in developing clear, compelling scientific communication.
  • Lightsources.org, the home for the global light source community, invites entries to the Science Communication Poster Competition at the Bay Area Light Sources Joint Users' Meeting. Posters entered will be judged during the Poster Session by a panel of communicators from several light sources.
    • When judging the entries, the panel will be evaluating first impressions, readability, scientific content, and the poster presenter’s communication on the day.
    • Certificates will be presented at the plenary session on Thursday, September 25. Cash prizes for 1st, 2ndand 3rd place winners ($300, $200 and $100 respectively) will be paid directly to the recipients after the event.
    • Those entering this competition can also request post event feedback on their posters from the judges by e-mailing webmaster@lightsources.org. To help refresh our memories, please include a photo of yourself as well as your poster. That way, we can remember your presentation and offer specific feedback on your poster.
  • The poster competition will be judged by a panel comprised of the Users' Conference Organizing Committee, SSRL Users' Executive Committee (SSRL UEC), LCLS Users' Executive Committee (LCLS UEC), ALS Users' Executive Commitee (ALS UEC) and help from SSRL/LCLS/ALS scientists to ensure that broad research areas are covered.
  • Judges may develop their own criteria, but in general it will consist of asking poster presenters to give a concise (3-4 minute) summary to the judges. Judges may select a small group of ‘finalists’ that will be asked to also present to the other judges, typically for a shorter time.
  • Awards will be announced at the conclusion of the poster session (certificates will be provided at a later date).
