The unprecedented increase in energy demand and transformation is reshaping the energy system and placing a new strain on the already pressed global supply chain.

EPRI’s 4th Supply Chain Workshop will focus on industry challenges and opportunities associated with the supply chain for structural components in advanced energy systems (advanced nuclear, bulk energy storage (e.g., molten salts), concentrated solar, supercritical CO2, thermal plants with carbon capture and storage, and fusion).

As with previous workshops, you can expect approx. 30 presentations describing work that is underway to address several of the key opportunities and to seek further industry input on actionable items.

Open discussions on:

  • Supply chain capabilities, including domestic foundry and casting capabilities
  • Challenges facing suppliers, end-users, and technology developers
  • Fusion developer supply chain needs
  • Thinking differently for innovative procurement of nuclear components
  • Latest developments in ASME to enable advanced manufacturing for supply chain resilience

This year’s workshop will focus on addressing advanced materials and manufacturing challenges for nuclear energy by collaboration and coordination between national laboratories, industry, and standards and regulatory bodies.

Topics include:

  • Advanced Materials Needs: Identifying material requirements for current and next-generation nuclear technologies.
  • Applications of Advanced Manufacturing: Leveraging advanced manufacturing to address critical challenges in nuclear energy.
  • Accelerated Materials Qualification: Fast-tracking qualification of materials exposed to temperature, stress, irradiation and corrosion.
  • Codes and Standards Development: Identifying gaps and opportunities in developing materials codes and standards for advanced reactors.
  • Nuclear Supply Chain: Integrating advanced materials and manufacturing technologies into the nuclear supply chain.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Technology developers, entire supply chain of structural and pressure retaining equipment including material suppliers, manufacturers of various product forms, fabricators, OEMs, supply chain personnel, procurement and sourcing leads, utilities, future owner-operators of advanced energy systems, those interested in qualifying and deploying advanced manufacturing and new materials, and materials leads.

Tours will also be provided the afternoon of Wednesday (9/24) for the following facilities:

  • PNNL Laboratory Tour
  • Framatome Fuel Plant Tour
  • Columbia Generating Station Site Visit
