Lessons from the Frontier: Utility Experiences with Microplastics Sampling
Current best practices for microplastics sampling are more cumbersome than for any other drinking water contaminant, and utility institutional knowledge remains very limited. Thus, the Arcadis / Rutgers University research team implementing Water Research Foundation project 5185 (Fate of Microplastics in Drinking Water Treatment Plants) developed customized programs and practices for 16 participating utilities to conduct first-of-its kind in-house sampling, subsequently capturing insights, suggested improvements, and lessons learned.
After attending this webinar, participants should be able to:
- Take one easy step to reduce personal microplastics exposure at home.
- List the challenges associated with sampling for microplastics in drinking water treatment plants (WTPs).
- Cite potential sources of microplastics contamination that may affect drinking water samples.
- Recount key insights from utility experiences in conducting microplastics sampling in WTPs.
- Identify important considerations for the future of microplastics sampling.
