COURSE DESCRIPTION
The high surface tension of water presents challenges to a formulator who attempts to develop products that will properly wet surfaces, disperse pigments, emulsify key components, or even generate or destabilize foam. It is imperative that we understand how materials are affected, by their flow behavior, as a result of applied stress forces. This knowledge will allow a formulator to develop products with the best possible outcome considering production, storage, packaging, and application. This 6-hour accredited course on Rheology and Surfactants (Chemistry, Theory, and Application) reviews the basic principles of viscosity and surface tension. The course includes an in-depth understanding of the chemistry and mechanism of rheological additives and surface-active agents. Product types, deformation forces, flow behavior profiles, surface activity, measuring methods, and a review of interatomic bonding and intermolecular attraction will help explain how these important specialty additives and agents perform in real world applications.
