The PALS provider course will provide you with the opportunity to practice and train in dynamic role-playing situations that mirror real life and that will help you in your role as a healthcare provider. You will be introduced to a wide range of life-threatening, all-hands-on-deck scenarios involving pediatric patients experiencing respiratory emergencies, shock and cardiopulmonary arrest in which you apply a systematic approach that includes the evaluate-identify-intervene sequence. The goal is to strengthen your ability to recognize, intervene, communicate and work effectively as a critical member of a healthcare team.
Heart & Stroke’s PALS program, based on the 2025 Guidelines, provides hands-on learning that builds on your Basic Life Support (BLS) skills, teaches you when and how to use the latest treatment recommendations for your patients, and takes your skills as an advanced healthcare provider to the next level.
This course is offered in the blended learning format in which you delve into parts of the curriculum on your own time and at your own pace and then take the instructor-led, in-classroom component on the date specified.
Intended Audience:
PALS is designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the management of respiratory and/or cardiovascular emergencies and cardiopulmonary arrest in pediatric patients. This includes but is not limited to: physicians, physician assistants, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, registered respiratory therapists, dentists, dental assistants.
Course information:
Through didactic instruction and active participation in simulated cases, students will enhance their skills and participate in simulations which involve high-quality CPR, high-performance team dynamics and communication, and a systematic approach to pediatric assessment that includes the evaluate-identify-intervene sequence. You will be able to reinforce concepts, undertake skills practice, receive coaching and correction, and refine your abilities before final testing.
PALS Registration Information
The PALS Provider Blended Course has 2 parts. Part 1 is an online, virtual module. This module is asynchronous, completed on your own time, and at your own pace. Completion of this Part 1 module, including passing of the written exam (84%, 2 attempts maximum), is a pre-requisite for entry into the Part 2 in-person component which will take place on the date specified.
Prior to attempting the Part 1 virtual component, you must complete the PALS Pre-course Assessment. Passing score 70%, unlimited attempts.

Pre-requisites:
· Completed PALS Pre-course Assessment. Passing score 70%.
· Completion of this Part 1 module, including passing of the written exam. Passing score of 84%.
· Valid BLS certification from Heart and Stroke Foundation (within 12 months at the time that you attend part 2 in-person component).
Key/Materials information:
You will receive access to the virtual, online module from Heart and Stroke Foundation 4 weeks in advance of the date specified for the in-person component. You will only receive access when all the following are complete:
- Payment is received.
- Registration for the course on Heart and Stroke Training Portal.
- Registration on the CVENT site.
Access to the online module will be emailed to you about 4 weeks prior to the course date you select in the form of a "key", and you will be able to access it through the Heart and Stroke Training portal.
Please note that upon completion of the PALS Pre-Course Self-Assessment, and Online Blended Module, those certifications are valid for 90 days. Please be mindful of this timing relative to the date of your PALS course, as we are unable to accept expired pre-requisite certifications.
For the Online Blended Module, once you complete the Final Exam section, the module is considered finished and your certification 90-day window begins. If the module is opened and in progress, it remains accessible without an expiry date at the time.
With this key, you will also have access to electronic versions of the course materials including PALS Provider Manual and pocket reference card. If you would prefer physical copies of the materials, you will need to purchase them separately through the "Shop" tab on the Heart and Stroke training portal. Another pre-requisite material for the course is the 2025 ECC Handbook, which can also be purchased through the "Shop" tab.

Attendance Guidelines
- Please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to start time.
- Attendance for the full day duration is mandatory.
- Due to the volume of material this session covers, we will not be able accept late arrivals.
Late arrivals and those not participating for the full day duration will be asked to reschedule at their own expense.
