Almost everyone deals with contracts in some way. If contracts are part of your role, then don't miss this opportunity to hear about strategies and tactics to manage common contract risks from those in the know.

A lot of front-end work often goes into preparing public works contracts, big and small. From bespoke contracts to those patterned on familiar Australian Standard templates, the parties will often map out where things can go wrong and negotiate in advance terms to deal with those eventualities. But that is just the beginning of the contract life cycle.

In this presentation, we will explore how contract risks can materialise in between the time of contract execution and completion. Using recent real-life examples, we hope to show how lawyers think about managing contract risks while the contract is still being performed. And, importantly, learn about practical strategies and tactics you can implement to manage common issues that arise in the delivery of public works contracts.

Onsite & Livestreaming options available for this event.

Facilitator:  David Coulter, Lawyer, Civic Legal

David is a lawyer in Civic Legal’s Commercial and Local Government team. He acts for local governments and other public bodies in a wide range of commercial and governance matters. A large focus of David’s practice revolves around the procurement and delivery of public works and service contracts.

David advises clients through challenges in the procurement, contracting, and delivery phases of projects and has acted for them in dispute resolution matters arising from them.

David’s first decade of legal experience was as a commercial litigator representing clients ranging from local governments to large multinational corporations. That background has given David an understanding of the myriad ways commercial matters can go pear-shaped – and how to deal with them commercially when they do.
