Three leadership practices are essential for supervisors: setting clear expectations, employee training and development, and providing performance feedback. In Employee Development and Training, you will learn best practices to plan and conduct training that engages employees, supports retention, and helps ensure great quality work. You will also learn how to create a culture of continuous learning and performance improvement through employee development, coaching, and career planning.

Participation in the Zoom sessions is highly encouraged and provides a valued opportunity for peer-to-peer learning. To get the most out of the course, students should plan to spend a minimum of two hours each week on combined course activities.

Certificate Program Courses

Supervisors are critical to the success of farm businesses. They have a major impact both on employees’ daily work experiences and on the production performance of the business. The Agricultural Supervisory Leadership Certificate helps farm supervisors and managers learn and apply human resource management practices and leadership skills that foster rewarding workplaces and drive business results. Confident managers who thoughtfully apply leadership and management skills improve employee performance, develop teams, reduce employee turnover, and increase employee engagement. 

 

Each online course is made up of 5-6 weeks of instruction on topics aimed to build your leadership and management skills. Administered through the web-based platform, Moodle, course instruction includes a combination of pre-recorded lectures, reading assignments, written exercises, live discussion sessions and quizzes. For those looking to learn more on a particular topic, supplemental videos and articles may be recommended by the instructor.  Those who complete all six courses and achieve 70 percent or better on all weekly quizzes will receive an Agricultural Supervisory Leadership certificate. Continuing education credits are also offered.

Course costs

The cost of each course is $275 for New York State residents and $325 for out of state residents. 

Scholarship Opportunity for Dairy Producers (for a limited time!)

Thanks to the generous support from the Northeast Dairy Business Innovation Center (NE-DBIC), eligible participants can apply for a $100 scholarship to cover a portion of their registration fees. How to Receive a Discount: To receive the benefits of the scholarship and participate in this transformative program, when registering, ensure you select either “NYS Dairy” or “Northeast Dairy” in the industry question to qualify for scholarship consideration.
