This training is suitable for: Professionals in clinical, educational, and community-based roles who want to strengthen their skills in navigating conflict within complex, people-centered environments.

Level of training: Introductory/Intermediate

Description: Conflict in the workplace is inevitable, but it does not have to keep you up at night. Effective conflict management can turn an unpleasant experience in which relationships are damaged into one where we have the potential to build better work relationships and get work done more productively. In this workshop you will learn how to manage conflict with a co-worker, boss, client or business associate.

Learn how conflict develops as well as how to prevent or minimize the number of conflicts that you experience.  You will learn how to use the five core conflict management strategies.  You will  leave the workshop with a roadmap of when and how to use each conflict management style.

Learning objectives:

  • Explore how conflict develops within relationships and identify an effective strategy to deal with it.
  • Learn a core conflict management skill – how to stay in the problem-solving part of your brain rather than your amygdala.
  • Use five core conflict management approaches ranging from accommodate to collaborate.
  • Develop the skills associated with effective conflict management such as dealing constructively with anger and aggression, listening effectively, giving feedback, and managing emotions.
  • When appropriate, be able to use a collaborative problem-solving approach in which both participant’s needs are met, leading to a more lasting solution.

This course is highly interactive, using short lecturettes, group exercises, discussions, practice sessions and other activities to enable positive learning interactions amongst participants. A conflict management assessment will be used to help participants assess their own strengths and developmental needs.  The focus of the course is on the development of practical skills for conflict resolution that can be used in a variety of situations.
