A Meeting of the Disciplines!

From Cells to Galaxies is a group of Radio Astronomy and Medical Imaging experts who have met over the past 2 years and provided a series of webinars exploring areas of intersection between the two disciplines. (Recordings of all the talks can be found on the Speaker Series Archive page of this website.)

The result of the webinar series is a face to face workshop where we will gather for in-person collaboration and idea sharing. During this meeting, we will explore various areas of similar, yet diverse, areas of work.

We will focus on four unique and exciting Challenges. Participants will choose which of them to collaborate on during the workshop.

  • Visualizing and Reacting to Data in Real Time
  • Spatio-Spectral Modeling of Massive Spectral Data Cubes
  • Real Time Dynamic Imaging in Radio Interferometry and MRI
  • Shape - Orientation - Size Conservation and Image Plane Self-Calibration

Full abstracts can be found here.

There are many opportunities for collaboration and addressing challenges. During our three day meeting, we will recap the different methods used for Medical Imaging and Radio Astronomy, with hands-on introduction to data and data processing.

We will then continue with a presentation of submitted “Challenge” abstracts, after which we will workshop the topics for project definition.

The end goal of the meeting is to develop collaborative projects that can be funded and researched.

Call for Participants

Whether or not you submit an abstract to look at a particular "Challenge" you propose, we hope you will join us in St. Paul! This workshop will not be your typical conference. Expect hands-on, interactive learning and sharing across disciplines, specialities, career levels, and experiences. The more diversity of thought, the more creativity and innovation we can achieve. We will be working outside of the box to solve problems in new ways and find new insights into our work.
