The Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS) training program for school staff presents a crisis prevention and intervention model designed to teach staff how to help children learn constructive ways to handle crises
The ability of the entire organization to respond effectively and through the lens of being trauma informed to children and young people in crisis situations is critical in establishing not only a safe environment, but also one that promotes growth and development. The skills, knowledge, and professional judgment of staff in responding to crises are critical factors in helping young people learn constructive and adaptive ways to deal with frustration, failure, anger, rejection, hurt, and depression. The purpose of the TCIS system is to provide a crisis prevention and intervention model for schools that will assist in: Preventing crises from occurring, de-escalating potential crises, effectively managing acute crises, reducing potential and actual injury to children and staff, learning constructive ways to handle stressful situations, and developing a learning circle within the organization. Participants will have the chance to participate, practice, and receive feedback. Training will include techniques such as role plays, small group discussions, guided fantasies, conducting practice sessions and audiovisual aids will be utilized. The curriculum is evidence informed and trauma sensitive. There are written and role play assessments at the end of this three day course. PARTICIPANTS MUST ATTEND ALL THREE CONSECUTIVE DATES. PLEASE RECEIVE SUPERVISOR APPROVAL BEFORE REGISTERING.
