Summary - Zero Emission Ferries US 2024

Low/zero emission ferries continue to receive investments from the government in a bid to accelerate the transition to zero emission transportation. Overall, funding of USD2.5 billion is being provided under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to expand fleets, replace old vessels, build new terminals and docks, improve services in rural areas, and support the transition to low and zero emission technologies. Moreover, states, cities, agencies and operators are undertaking trailblazing zero emission ferry projects and extending significant funding to improve and expand ferry service in communities that rely on waterways and enable ferry operators to reduce their carbon footprint.

The successful deployment of electric, hydrogen and low-emission ferries and related infrastructure will require strong collaboration amongst different stakeholders including governments, transit agencies, operators, utilities, solution providers and financiers to resolve challenges pertaining to technology development, terminal infrastructure, workforce management, shipyard capacity, grid capacity and so on.

To discuss recent developments, case studies and opportunities, Global Mass Transit is organizing the second conference on “Zero Emission Ferries US”, on November 19, 2024 in the South San Francisco Conference Center.

The mission of this conference is to discuss the experience so far in the deployment of zero emission ferries in the US, funding available, strategies, best practices, recent developments, key challenges, plans and future outlook. It will also provide information on procuring, financing, operating, and maintaining zero-emission ferries and infrastructure. The conference will also highlight opportunities and technological innovations.
