We are pleased to announce the Summer Institute for Randomized Behavioral Intervention Trials will take place in Salt Lake City from October 11-14, 2026. The in-person meeting will be accompanied by monthly online video calls of approximately 2 hours each (October 2026-May 2027) with an assigned learning community (comprised of 5-6 peer Institute fellows and facilitated by 1-2 senior Institute faculty).

Eligibility requirements for applicants:

• completed a doctoral degree in a relevant field (i.e., PhD, MD, or equivalent); 
• at least two years of post-doctoral-degree experience in health-related and/or behavioral intervention research; and 
• have a project to work on during the Institute that involves an ongoing RCT or early-stage intervention development work expected to lead to an RCT. 

Beyond these eligibility requirements, we are seeking applicants who have demonstrated research potential and whose careers are likely to benefit from this training. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience with the conduct of trials (e.g., as a trainee or co-investigator) and already have available or pending funding for early-stage RCT-related work (e.g., K Award).

Due to limited availability of space, preference will be given to citizens or non-citizen nationals of the United States, or those lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence.

Cost

There is no registration fee for the Institute. Fellows will be responsible for the cost of travel to and from the site, room, and board. Family members may accompany participants at their own expense. 

A limited number of scholarships are available to fund most of the costs to attend the Institute, for applicants who do not have grant or institutional funds to cover the cost of attendance. Applicants who wish to apply for financial support must submit an additional letter demonstrating this financial need, endorsed by institutional leadership (e.g., Center Director, Division Chief, Department Chair, Dean).
