About the Meeting

This popular and highly interactive seminar provides faculty at the assistant professor level with foundational leadership knowledge and skills that will enable you to achieve your career goals, advance, and thrive as a successful leader in academic medicine and science.

The seminar will present a foundation for modeling leadership behavior, and you will gain critical skills and strategies to assist your preparation for academic promotion/advancement and to identify and take advantage of leadership opportunities.

What to Expect

Over three days, you’ll take part in engaging plenaries and panels, interactive small group breakouts, and will have ample opportunity to network with peers facing similar challenges. Specific topics that will be covered during the seminar include:

  • Academic promotion and advancement
  • Identifying and taking advantage of leadership opportunities
  • Negotiation
  • Personal statement and narrative writing
  • Communicating as a leader, and more

Who Should Apply?

This seminar is designed for physicians and scientists with an appointment at an AAMC member school of medicine, with a minimum of two years of experience (July 2023) as an Assistant Professor. We recognize every faculty member’s career progresses at a different pace, so we say, generally, this seminar is designed for faculty who have held an academic appointment at a school of medicine for eight years or less. 


Due to high demand, and limited capacity, we are unable to accept anyone outside of this target audience.
