Cracking the Code: Uncovering What Students Really Know

How do we know when students are truly understanding science? In this interactive session, educators will take a closer look at the different ways students show what they know and how we can recognize learning beyond traditional assessments. Through hands-on investigations, examining student work, and collaborative discussions, educators will explore ways to make student thinking visible and use what they notice to guide their next instructional steps.

• Design or adapt three-dimensional science assessments that provide meaningful opportunities for students to demonstrate their knowledge and thinking.
• Analyze evidence of student learning to identify patterns of understanding and determine responsive instructional next steps.
