COURSE OVERVIEW

This course will provide practical exercises and strategies designed to energize students in learning. Teachers will develop a better understanding in a variety of ways to influence students.  Many students in schools are faced with lack of material and teacher expertise in teaching a variety of subjects.  This lack of innovative approaches in teaching may result in students dropping out and teachers burning out.  If teachers are educated in new innovative approaches to teaching, this problem may be reduced. Energize Your Classroom will present a wide variety of ideas, latest information, technology and expertise with new approaches to stimulating learning. In the past five years innovative ideas have been developed to help students and teachers. With our population, more media savvy and increasingly diverse, new ways to reach students is needed.  With the internet, ipods, Youtube and social media our classrooms can be energized with new ways to teach and reach students. Teachers are reaching students with project-based curriculum, team building, internet interplay, work related, and community based learning that can energize the classroom.

Dan Sparkman, M.Ed. has been working in education for over fifty years, serving as a regular and Special Education teacher and working in Alaska for over 40 years. He was Assistant Professor working for five different universities. Mr. Sparkman has worked in “Bush” Alaska and Anchorage. Dan was a finalist for Alaska Teacher of the Year and awarded “Outstanding CTE Teacher of the Year.” He is certified in Alaska in a variety of teaching areas. He  has been teaching classes for ASDN for over twenty years.
