2027 Emerging Issues Forum: Future Forward Housing

The finale of the three-year Future Forward Infrastructure series, the 2027 Emerging Issues Forum will bring together industry experts, researchers, policymakers and community leaders to examine North Carolina's housing challenges.

As North Carolina's population continues to grow, housing affordability, supply shortages and a shrinking skilled workforce pose challenges for meeting residents' needs. Nationally, the United States faces a similar housing challenge.

The 2027 Emerging Issues Forum: Future Forward Housing will bring thought leaders together to examine these challenges and identify innovative, actionable solutions that address these concerns. Sessions will focus on cross-sector partnerships, housing policy, land use, housing affordability and supply, workforce demands and much more.

Future Forward Infrastructure

With 14 million people expected to call the Old North State "home" by 2050, the economic opportunities from this growth will be significant, but so will the strain on the state's existing infrastructure. The 2025-2027 Emerging Issues Forum series, "Future Forward Infrastructure," engages leaders from across North Carolina to examine key infrastructure needs, identify solutions that meet those needs and take advantage of the economic development opportunities the new infrastructure generates.

2025 | Future Forward Energy

Kicking off the series, the 2025 Emerging Issues Forum focused on the state's energy landscape.

2026 | Future Forward Water

The second installment in the series, the 2026 Emerging Issues Forum focused on the state's water infrastructure.

About the Emerging Issues Forum
