AI in Energy Workshop: Architecting Europe's AI-Native Energy Utility - November 2026

WELCOME

Europe stands at a pivotal moment in the convergence of energy and artificial intelligence. As the continent seeks to strengthen both its energy security and technological sovereignty, a new question emerges: what would the European energy utilities (generation and grid asset owners and operators and energy suppliers) look like if they were free from today's constraints and guided by the highest level of European digital ambition?

As part of European AI Innovation Month, this workshop invites participants to explore that question and develop a shared vision for European AI-native energy utilities. The goal is not simply to digitize existing utility models, but to imagine a fundamentally new blueprint that aligns with Europe's strategic priorities in energy, decarbonisation, technological competitiveness, and AI leadership.

The discussion will focus on four interconnected themes:

1. Defining the Current State and Vision: With direct contributions from governmental leaders to define the vision of where European utilities should be with contributions from leaders of Irish and European companies on the current technological state and readiness levels. 

2. Pathways and Target State: The visions have to be realistic. Based on the vision and current states what are the realistic pathways that generation, grid and supplier utilities can adopt to becoming AI-native, and what are the timelines?

3. Challenges to Adoption and Emerging Enablers: There are well-documented challenges to Ai adoption in critical infrastructure industries, but what are the emerging enablers to overcome the challenges in Europe. How can the Eu Act be implemented to ensure safe AI proliferates?

4. European AI Moonshots: The workshop will identify three transformative "AI moonshot" projects for the energy sector, including generation, grids and supply. These ambitious initiatives should have the potential to redefine utility operations and materially accelerate Europe's journey toward a net-zero energy system by 2035.
