AI in Energy Workshop: Architecting Europe's AI-Native Energy Utility - November 2026

WELCOME

Europe stands at a pivotal moment in the convergence of energy and artificial intelligence. As the continent seeks to strengthen both its energy security and technological sovereignty, a new question emerges: what would the European energy utilities of the future look like if they were free from today's constraints and guided by the highest level of European ambition?

As part of European AI Innovation Month, this workshop invites participants to explore that question and develop a shared vision for European AI-native energy utilities. The goal is not simply to digitize existing utility models, but to imagine a fundamentally new blueprint that aligns with Europe's strategic priorities in energy, decarbonization, industrial competitiveness, and AI leadership.

The discussion will focus on three interconnected themes:

1. Euro-Centric Trust & Validation: Europe must establish robust approaches for trusting, validating, and certifying AI systems embedded within critical utility operations and engineering processes. As AI becomes increasingly central to decision-making, ensuring reliability, transparency, and accountability will be essential to maintaining public trust and operational resilience.
2. Unified Data & Open Source: Data and technology strategies must be aligned across borders to create a more interoperable European energy system. A stronger commitment to data-exchange standards, open-source collaboration, and coordinated digital infrastructure could accelerate innovation while reinforcing European priorities around sovereignty and competitiveness.
3. European AI Moonshots: The workshop will identify three transformative "AI moonshot" projects for the energy sector. These ambitious initiatives should have the potential to redefine utility operations and materially accelerate Europe's journey toward a net-zero energy system by 2035.
