Student veterans bring valuable strengths to campus, but the transition from military service to higher education can present unique challenges. Join the Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) for a virtual lunch and learn on Wednesday, March 10, at 12 p.m. ET via Zoom, presented by Dr. Rusty Mardis, assistant director of the Veterans Resource Station at Northern Kentucky University.
Drawing on doctoral research, lived experience as a student veteran, and years of supporting military-connected students, Dr. Mardis will share ten key lessons that higher education professionals should understand about the military-to-campus transition. Participants will explore how military culture, identity, and institutional practices shape the student veteran experience, challenge common misconceptions, and discover practical strategies for creating more veteran-ready campuses.
Attendees will leave with actionable ideas to better support student veterans and strengthen their success, engagement, and sense of belonging. Register before the close date of Sunday, March 7.
