This course will offer didactic and skill practice including: etiology, electrolyte imbalance, acid-base imbalance, volume excess, clinical presentation,  peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, continuous renal replacement therapies overview, air embolus, hemorrhage, thrombosis, hypo/hyperthermia, sepsis, electrolyte imbalances, therapeutic fluid rate, blood flow rate, ultrafiltration rate.

Additionally, changes in parameters in patient with hypertension/sepsis, clotting/clogging of filter (molecule size, sepsis - cytokines,/endotoxins- lipids - HLD, propofol infusions, utilizing graph screen on NxStage System One to trend effluent and balance pressures access - anatomical placement of line based on patient size/habitus, appropriate length and size at each site.

Outcome:

1. Every learner will self-report an increase in knowledge of clinical decision making regarding fluid management in the critically ill renal patient
2. Every learner will demonstrate the set and operation of NxStage CRRT device.

Intended Audience: MGH ICU Nurses Only

Contact hours: 5.25 will be awarded to nurses who complete the pre-test, program materials, classroom components, post-test and program evaluation.
