Please join an Ostomy Education program in collaboration with Lions Gate Hospital and St. Paul’s Hospital. The program will provide a practical learning experience for clinicians who support patients preparing for and recovering from ostomy surgery. Through foundational instruction, patient perspective, complication recognition, and hands-on product practice, participants will build the confidence and proficiency needed to provide consistent, safe, and compassionate care.
Learning Objectives
- Explain basic ostomy types, expected postoperative findings, routine pouching principles, and the clinician’s role.
- Recognize common ostomy complications, identify when escalation is required, and communicate concerns clearly to the NSWOC or surgical team.
- Provide practical nutrition, hydration, skin protection, and discharge teaching that reinforces the patient’s care plan.
- Demonstrate greater proficiency with ostomy products and hands-on care while responding to patient concerns with empathy and confidence.
- Guest presentation by Jenn Moore, founder of You Got This with Coach Jenn and member of Ostomy Canada Society's Board of Directors.
