The 2026 Visual Resource Stewardship Conference will no longer be held as an in-person event. Please do not register for the conference.

Due to lower-than-anticipated registration, restrictions affecting federal employee travel, and broader changes affecting participation across the visual resources community, the planning committee has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2026 in-person conference.

Anyone who has already registered will receive a 100% refund.

This is not the end of the Visual Resource Stewardship Conference or our broader professional community. Instead, we are transitioning the 2026–2027

program to a free Visual Resource Stewardship Seminar Series, with up to eight virtual seminars planned during FY 2027.

Additional information about the seminar series, speakers, and upcoming dates will be posted here as it becomes available.

The biennial symposium is more than a gathering it is a platform for sharing ideas. It convenes scholars, practitioners, NGOs, and government leaders who recognize that visual resources are not peripheral to our landscapes, but central to how we understand place, identity, improving access and outcomes, and change.

In an era defined by accelerating energy development, climate adaptation, urban expansion, and ecological transformation, the stewardship of visual landscapes demands new thinking, new tools, and renewed collaboration. Together, we will challenge assumptions, advance science, elevate design, and redefine how visual resource analysis and management shape the future of our shared environments.
